In my opinion, having a well-trained ear is better than having a lot of theoretical knowledge. At the end of the day, music is all about hearing and emotions. So while learning theory is absolutely essential, don’t forget the other side of the equation – understanding what is heard.

Hello, I am going to take the RCM 10 exam next month, and unfortunately my ear training is pretty weak. I’ve been using your method of the ‘feelings’ associated with chords and intervals, which I find very effective. My biggest issue now would be the chord progressions. I’ve been trying to find a way to distinguish the I-IV and I-V but it’s a bit difficult for me. Do you have any suggestions as to what would be effective in this case? Thanks so much! 🙏
Warren is a great teacher
