Chordplay – I Love 1960s Chords and information related to this topic.

Here’s the next episode of Chordplay with I Love 1960s Chords. I’ve created a number of these decade-focused lessons, and have featured chords and musical concepts/ideas from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and beyond. Having said that, we haven’t hit the 1960s quite like this before, so I felt it was time to feature some of these timeless chord-based ideas from this groovy and experimental era of music.

There’s quite a variety of musical styles, sounds, and stylistic directions of music during this decade – including psychedelic rock, blues-rock, acoustic rock, and The British Invasion, to name a few specific highlights. You’ll find a decent sampling of slick chord moves, driving riffs, funky ideas, and much more hiding in this lesson, so if you’re searching for some new moves based on classic ideas – this is the lesson for you!

The chord-based moments from songs in this lesson include massively influential groups/artists such Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, 13th Floor Elevators, Cream, The Beatles, and many more! These include several well-known hits, along with some obscure and “hidden” songs from this innovative, experimental, and liberating decade of music.

Just stumbled across this channel, no idea who he is but this guy is really likable, knowledgeable and really good. All hail the YouTube algorithm.

What is remarkable to understand is that Buddy was only 6 years older than Jimi.

I prefer The Rockets version of Oh Well better than Fleetwood Mac. Its even grittier. The Rockets were another great band from Detroit

Throughout the '60's came the most innovative ideas that are still inspiring musicians today.
Thanks for a great video 👍😎

I love the 7th chords in some songs. They just seem to give a song so much depth.

Carl G 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Could you do something on Andy Timmons

Buster Crack 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Great content as usual . I’ve never got why Clapton is so revered while Green barely gets a mention . Clapton never progressed after the 60’s in my humble opinion. Bernie Torme however ~ now that’s a different story 🇬🇧😂

For me Mr Page was incredibly lucky to have the plagiarism case ruled in his favour because Stairway is such a ridiculous rip off Spirit's Taurus it's beyond belief. If I heard someone playing Taurus in a music shop I'd laugh and think the guy was playing Stairway wrong because he couldn't work it out properly. My opinion.

seamanjive 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Good, very good….thx

Thomas Z 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Sounds like Metallica listened to 13th Floor Elevators. Lot of theories about where Stairway came from. I always thought it has a lot in common with Summer Rain by Johnny Rivers.

This is great, David! I love it!!! Thanks! EDIT: We're gonna need follow-ups to this 60s Chords Episode featuring MORE 60s Chords!

Diego Maugeri 08/09/2021 - 12:47

When I became a teenager in the mid '80s the '60s felt so far away! The thought that now my beloved '80s would feel like ancient history to anyone makes me cringe. And, of course, makes me feel old…

T.Sewell 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Nothing against the amp you’re playing through Dave. But I would love to hear you through a Matchless. Cool episode as usual as well.

Daniel Brown 08/09/2021 - 12:47

That chord in SWLABR is a lot like one of the chords in Mainline Florida from 461 Ocean Blvd

Chris Charles 08/09/2021 - 12:47

Dang it David you’re killing it! Great lesson! You keep setting the bar higher and higher.
