We’ve asked artist Charlotte Casper to paint a reconstruction of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, by using mainly the same materials and approach.
The exhibition Van Gogh and the Sunflowers allows visitors to discover how important the sunflower was to Van Gogh and learn the answers to pressing questions such as how we can best preserve this painting so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Van Gogh and the Sunflowers is on view from 21 June until 1 September 2019

Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers Live London
On 14 August 2017, in a worldfirst Facebook Live relay, Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ paintings were united virtually in a unique collaboration led by art experts from the National Gallery, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art. Watch a recording of the first Facebook Live broadcast presented by Chris Riopelle, Curator of Post 1800 Paintings at the National Gallery, exploring the story behind our ‘Sunflowers’ painting.
