  1. The A&R people all over the world should be incarcerated. Put them in one island and let them listen to each other til they lose their minds and kill each other. These people think that their taste in music is far more superior than anybody else and made them believe that they should decide what type of songs they will shove down our throats. Outlaw those manipulators of tastes. They are the obstacles to real creativity in music because of their single-minded formulaic and greedy mentality that is ugly music economy.

  2. Hey Rick you are always talking about making origional music and I definataly think that using microtonal scales will do this! If you havnt already heard King Gizard and the lizard wizard then you just have to check out there album the flying microtonal banana! On this record they use microtonal guitars which are based on middle eastern instruments and have quarter note frets! this I believe is the future of guitar! and if you havnt heard King gizard I strongly suggest that you do! they have about 19 albums everyone exploring a different musical form! cheers Howie Allan.

  3. I experienced this same trend as a church bassist; everything is the same 4 chords and it all sounds alike. It forced me to get creative with it with new tasty licks, solos, effects, etc. I needed to play something on stage to keep me from getting bored w the exact same chord progression in every single song. This video validated my frustration lol

  4. I love all kinds of music, I really do. But…I really really can’t stand modern country music. They all sound the freaking same. And the men look absolutely ridiculous out there on stage with their ridiculous skin-right skinny jeans 🤢🤮 come on man, it’s country music! no no no 🤦🏻‍♀️

  5. I'm playing beginner Bach on my piano. At least there's variety. I also play Easy Piano songs series by Hal Leonard. Learning a lot and there's good variety of song choices.

  6. Hey Rick, I remember this video had a whole portion that you talked about rap and hip hop songs using the same hi hat and snare sounds. Did you edit this video? It that in a different video? Would you be able to link me to that video? I would like to share it with my high school students in my music theory class.

  7. Hey Rick, Check out an Australian Comedy Group call "the Axis of Awesome". they have a video on YouTube that features songs made up of the 4 Magic Chords.

  8. I’ve always been in awe of Steely Dan. Their chord progressions are so sophisticated and extremely challenging to play. And unlike some bands who do this for the sake of showing off, it is musical perfection.

  9. If it's the labels that are at fault, why not say "Screw the labels" and be your OWN label. If it's not the radio station's fault, then pitch the song to the stations and they should be willing to play other things, cause it was never their demands for the same 4 chords, right? If they say NO, then they are complicit and it IS their fault TOO!

  10. you say beatles had 20+ singles and only used one "1,4,5,6" permutation, yet you then say a few guys who are like you!?, decide only "1,4,5,6" permutations will make it.. but they let 19 other songs play on the radio… are you making sense? did I misremember what you said?

  11. Porcupine Tree track "Four Chords That Sold a Million", all about how the music industry just milks musicians that write four-chord tracks and washes them out when they've made the company money.
