I'm just a novice. I notice your strumming isn't continuous. You' re just pausing your strumming before the up-down-up and wrecking the perfect rhythm of the hand movement. I get confused when I play it like you do. Anyone else play like that?

Johnny Cash's version is too fast and he sings it like he's reading out a shopping list i.e. no feeling The Kris Kristofferson/Steve Earl version is played slower without that horrible guitar style of Cash's. Also it's a beautiful arrangement that reflects the sadness and regret expressed by the lyrics. Check it out here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J7IlU78eC0 I had to edit it because for some reason I suggested that Cash wrote it when I know he didn't, Kristofferson did. My criticism of Cash stands however except for his work much later in his life. His cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails was brilliant.

I'll tell you something funny and people will call me delusional, but truth trumps stupidity. On a Saturday in 1988, I was driving a limo on weekends for extra money when I was in college. I was sent to the Holiday Inn to pickup Johnny Cash. He walked out and I said "Sue, how do you do? Now I'm gonna die!". He laughed! I was glad he did. I had the fortunate luck to spend 5-6 hours alone with him. I told him that "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was my favorite song of his. I grew up in the 60s but I loved this song, probably because I was going through a divorce and it made sense, I hated Sundays. Neither of us had a guitar, but he sang it for me. When I dropped him off at the end, I told him that it didn't feel right charging him for the time when people payed so much to hear him sing. I couldn't charge him when I was the one who was in awe. Afterwards, I felt kinda dumb because he had plenty of money and I was struggling. But I learned to love the man that day because he truly was "the man" that we all should be. Hail Johnny, RIP!

Good tutorial, chord progression and 2/2 timing wise, but you really should include all the verses before going straight to the chorus after the first verse…The lyrics to this classic are hard to memorize.

I prefer the Chris Kristopherson/Steve Earl version. Johnny Cash has a way of making all of his songs sound the same. That walking bass thing he does drives me nuts.
Nice. One question. Does it take practice to hit those low notes singing? Cause I feel like I can do it but I'm not sure if I'm hitting the right note and it's hard to control my voice when singing that deep

I find that all of the tutorials are very informative. i have learned how to play songs and now learning how to finger pick they are not all easy but fun. I have neuropathy which has been very therapeutic.I thank all of the instructors for being part of my recovery. God bless you
