The straight line joining the centre of the circle to the midpoint of a chord is perpendicular to the chord.

The radius of a circle is the length of the line from the center to any point on its edge. The plural form is radii (pronounced “ray-dee-eye”). In the figure above, drag the orange dot around and see that the radius is always constant at any point on the circle.
A circle is a shape consisting of all points in a plane that are a given distance from a given point, the centre; equivalently it is the curve traced out by a point that moves in a plane so that its distance from a given point is constant.
