  1. Question for you… I noticed you and other CDT hikers wearing trail runner shoes instead of hiking boots. What’s the reason behind footwear with no ankle support? Is there any concern about rolling your ankle? I never did any through hikes like the CDT, but my feet require boots while in the mountains. Years ago I nearly destroyed my ankle when I wore shoes instead of boots on a hike.

I live in NM and enjoyed watching your experience hiking across the state. Good luck when you get back on the trail.

  2. Thanks for gear review. 👍. It's always good to see what is working. I was wondering about the thin, hooded top. I've seen a couple other hikers with it, so it is nice to hear who makes it and how it has worked for you. Thank you for sharing the name of the manufacturer. And now I know where you got the pink leggings. REI needs to sell them because they seemed indestructible. No one will recognize you without them. 😉
It is pouring down rain here in CO today (May 31st). and usually every afternoon means a rain shower as summer gets closer, so that poncho might still come in handy. Just a thought. ☺️

  3. I can't believe you can get all that equipment into a 40L pack. I have an old REI 40L pack that I bought years ago and I tried putting all my stuff in it but couldn't. I admire your ability to pack it all in.

  4. My kind of backpacker. Plenty of backups without stressing about some grams. Can’t say I understand all the undergarments but hey, we all hike our own hike.
Thanks for sharing and for me so far, the trail-break content is just as compelling as the rest so please keep doing your thing. And thank you!

  5. Glad to hear that somebody else packs out their toilet paper. They make odorproof black bags you can buy on Amazon that are perfect. That way you don’t have to look at it either:)

  6. The REI trail 40 was an interesting choice–I think you might be unique on that one. (And in other ways for sure).I've got the Trail25 which is a nice, more heavy duty day pack. I think the Trail would make not a bad Camino pack. I't has interesting organization. I'm always fascinated by these for some reason, as I never plan to thru hike, and have no interest in personally doing it. I hope you come back to NM. There are many beautiful hikes near Taos, esp. Or the Jemez.

  7. Not sure if you're actually at home or back on trail BUT I would like to recommend the simple black Costco rain jacket. They're under $20. Not sure if you can find them now. But if you can get one I have worn mine over my puffy in rain and snow and have come out perfectly dry. I've been happily surprised by it. Great to see how your down time is going. 🙂

  8. One thing I have really liked about you and your gear is that you are not obsessed with being uber lightweight. You use what works best for you! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to following you on your return to the trail.

  9. Love your Brooks hat, Rei pack, Raab rain jacket, OR hoodie and big thumbs up for Tyvec. Thank you for sharing. Respect for LNT. Have a wonderful R &R and get back on it Soon. ATB
