Chordplay – The Chords of Cinderella and information related to this topic.

Here’s the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Cinderella.
Cinderella formed in 1982 in Philadelphia, and while I knew that much of their early days, I didn’t realize there was a different version of the band long before their debut ‘Night Songs’ in 1986. It wasn’t until I did the research for this episode that I made this discovery and checked out some early demos of the band in their infancy with a modified lineup.

This lesson features some hard-hitting 1980s rock and hard rock rhythm playing and mainly sticks with some choice riffs from ‘Night Songs’ and a lesser-known rocker from ‘Long Cold Winter.’
Tom Keifer and Jeff LeBar were a great tag-team together and their songs, riffs, and licks blended and worked together perfectly. This lesson takes a look at a few of these moments and has plenty to offer fans of rock and hard rock guitar playing. Some of the ideas shared include chord-based moments from ‘Somebody Save Me,’ ‘Push Push,’ ‘Night Songs,’ and ‘Once Around The Ride,’ to name a few.

Most of their songs feature interesting twists and turns, commonly using basic power chords and standard ideas, but it’s the power and energy they put into their music that really gave it life and the hard-hitting sound they captured during their career.

  1. Cinderella was a truly underrated band. I was lucky to see them live on the Night Songs, Long Cold Winter and Heartbreak Station tours. They were the first band I got into and first concert I attended. RIP Jeff! 🀘🎸🀘

  2. Rare time time I agree with Eddie Trunk. If they'd look like the Black Crowes on the cover of Night Songs, Cinderella would have been deservedly huge. Album of my youth. Thanks Brew!

  3. Man I had no idea that original version of 'Shake Me' even existed. Cinderella was the first concert I went to, opening for Bon Jovi in Toronto. I'll never forget seeing Tom Keifer catch that guitar thrown by his tech from the side of the stage to the middle of the stage and hit the opening chords of 'Once Around the Ride' without missing a beat. That blew my mind as a kid! – πŸ™‚

  4. Night Songs rocks. One of my favorite albums from the period. After that their albums had too many ballads and other tunes that just didn't resonate with me.

  5. Tom kiefer was a hell of a songwriter and guitarist not to mention his amazing vocals. Cinderella is probably my favorite band of the era or any era for that matter. cool lesson πŸ‘πŸ€˜

  6. Best live band ever, and i was a 80s rocker keifers voice was on point everysong and he could have been a lead guitarist in any other band on the scene

  7. Long Cold Winter was my workout album (well CD) back then. Ah, have since moved out of Michigan's UP but Long Cold Winter takes me back. That song "long-Cold-Winter" great intro, great song. Now, you make me wanna go search out Night Songs. Thanks much!

  8. Been meaning to watch this one for a while and would've sooner had I not forgot to add to my watch later list. Nonetheless, now that I've watched it, I say to myself why hadn't I watched it sooner watch list or not?

Good one. And Cinderella is one of my favorite hard rock bands of the eighties era to say the least.
And, I like the lil' rant about the 'flying guitars' which was something I've seen Keifer do in at least one of the two times I got to see them live.😎🀘

  9. Night Songs is a badass tune,,….I grew up seeing them dudes every weekend at the Galaxy in Somerdale NJ or in Philly….very glam…Tom was a very quiet laid back dude…

  10. Saw them open for Bon Jovi, but the best for me was the Long Cold Winter tour. Great tour. I figured out the whole album. He does launch them, and did so live!!! I wondered the same. Once around the ride is cool. Live Tom and the other guitarists did a bunch of trade off licks and it was great.!!!πŸ’•πŸ‘

  11. As I begin to embark watching this episode, I will say that I had just watched the Motley Crue ChordPlay episode again and noted at one point you mentioned Saxon. Saxon, I'd think would be a great ChordPlay episode, and also even a 3Licks one as well perhaps.
But, their understated work is worthy of attention.

  12. Another great video! Love how you play all of these different riffs with ease. You and Rick Beato are my favorite YouTube musicians. Keep it up David!

  13. Love Cinderella. Don't know what you got till it's gone…. Dude could you please please please do one of my all-time favorite band.. Damn Yankee's.

  14. Great lesson David.. This brings back memories even prior to when Cinderella hit the scene. If my 55 year old memory serves, drummer Fred Coury grew up in my home town of Johnson City, NY. I remember back around the 82-83 time frame seeing him play in a local bar in Johnson City, although I never knew him personally. Small world.

  15. That was the most fun I have had since in ages . Great lesson m8. Thoroughly enjoyed crashing through that lot , every one was a winner. Completely lifted my spirits during these uncertain times. I might not be doing them justice but you really put a smile on my face with that lesson . Nice one ☝️

  16. Cinderella so underrated!!! Good to see them getting some Love!! All 4 of their albums ROCKED!! Night Songs one of the greatest Albums in rock history!! Thank You for the episode.

  17. Saw Tom Play in October of 2019 In Akron , Ohio. Was awesome. Best song ever is Nothing for Nothing. Its a hidden gem, nobody plays it. It kicks ass

  18. I used to go see these guys play at The Empire Rock Room in the mid 80's. Probably saw them a dozen times. They're phenomenal live. Jeff Lebar was already in the group, but Fred Coury wasn't in the band until they got signed. They had several drummers before him. One went to play with Britney Fox, but was sadly killed in a car accident. The other, their best imo, is a lawyer and plays in a jazz band. Loved that time of my life.

  19. hey late night lessons
i just found your channel and love your chordplay videos, so much great infos for guitarists.
I wondered if you could do one about Death. that would be brutally awesome.
keep up your inspiring work man m/

  20. What's sad is there's a story about the last recording Cinderella made that didn't get released and record exec let a bunch of interns listen to it and they absolutely loved it and then he told him it was Cinderella and they all changed their mind and walked away such mindless fools such a great band
