So you want to learn how to play guitar chords? This is my Guitar lessons for beginners series and in this video, I’m going to show you how to play guitar chords and read chord charts!
Hey! I’m Chris Rastelli professional musician and guitar teacher helping you improve your musical ability! On this channel, I share tips and tricks on how to play the guitar so if you’re new here consider subscribing and getting your free guide in the description!
So let’s get started! The first thing we are going to do is learn the small G and Em Chords.
First Let’s cover some basics!
Here we got the strings of the guitar E, A, G, B, and high E
Next, we got the frets, Fret 1,2,3,4 and 5
Next, we got the dot, the dot means where we put our finger and the number below the dot means what finger we use. Since we don’t count the thumb, the index is 1, Middle is 2, Ring is 3 and pinky is 4!
The two X’s mean that we don’t play those 2 strings, So we only strum the last 4 strings.
This is how we play G, We put our 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the high E string, make sure your thumb is straight on the back of the second fret and that you’re using the tip of your finger.
This is how we play E minor we put our finger on the second fret of the D string
Now let’s switch back and forth in between them a few times
Once you’re comfortable, let’s start playing in tempo with what I call Rhythm 1 it got like this G,2,3,4,1,2,3,4, E,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 When I say G we play G and when I say E we play E minor.
Take your time to practice rhythm 1 and once you’re comfortable, let’s start playing Rhythm 2 it goes like this G,2,3,4, G,2,3,4, E,2,3,4, E,2,3,4
