Lido Pimienta: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert and information related to this topic.

The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It’s the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, NPR Music presents four very special Tiny Desk (home) concerts recorded especially for this week.

Felix Contreras | October 13, 2020
Colombian vocalist Lido Pimienta has had one of the musical highlights of a year marked by tragedy and uncertainty. The healing magic of her album Miss Colombia transfers beautifully to this visually stunning Tiny Desk (home) concert. (Extra points if you can spot the tiny Tiny Desk!)

Backed up by a bevy of international musicians based in her new home of Toronto (I see you, members of the Cuban group Okan), you can hear for yourself how Pimiento’s quartet of songs challenge the concept of just what qualifies as “Latin music” in a way that both honors and expands tradition.

There is added poignancy to the video; the visual theme is a quinceañera, a coming of age tradition that Pimienta could not share with her mother who had to flee Colombia. With her mom present at the video shoot, Pimienta uses her energetic performances to close a dramatic circle with her mom as we celebrate with her.

  1. Why do women still celebrate quincenieras? Isn’t it just a tradition for a family to celebrate when their daughter was old enough to be sold to the highest bidder for breeding, cooking and cleaning? I think it also traditionally means she’s old enough to drink alcohol, i.e. possibly become easier to take advantage of. I feel more positive about period parties 🎈 idk what the equivalent for young men would be. What does Marques say in one hundred years of solitude? I think the smart girl floated away before she turned of age. The concept of “sweet” sixteen also grosses me out, and contributes to a gray area that gets people pretty confused.

  2. There's so many bjork's references in Lido Pimienta 😍, im happy to feel how bjork's music influenced the new generation singers, you can be a bit crazy, a bit creative , amazing Lido, she's the coming race of contemporary singers, music needs a change need to express itself throw those souls😉

  3. Liked her alot, and still like the music….but then I saw an interview and her videos. Her arrogance will impede her career. Reminds me Alizia Banks…so much talent, yet lost to her bad attitude. People need to be united, not segregated based on gender and race ideologies. Hopefully Lido, will mature into a diplomatic leader, as as opposed to a voice of anger and division.

  4. Madurar es rechazar por completo las imposiciones musicales que Maluma, J Balvin y tantos otros nos quieren imponer y abrirle la puerta a Diosas talentosas como lo son Lido Pimienta y Kali Uchis

  5. I really like her songs but I have two things to say: first is that her backing vocals are OUT of tune and there is no "chemistry" in between them. Second is when she said on the minute 15:00 "this is the time to support musicians and artist because we are the ones that are working the hardest from the heart". Excuse me??? What about the medical doctors on the "frontline" of this pandemic? Nurses? Cleaners of hospitals? Truck drivers carrying all the products we find at the supermarkets shelfs? So arrogant to say that! So sorry…
