The Phrygian chord is an interesting inbetween sort of sound being an altered and suspended dominant at the same time. In this lesson I want to give you some voicings to play that sound and demonstrate some of the melodic devices I use on that kind of sound.

Hey Jens, cool video! Quick question, is the Phrygian mode any good over m7 chords in your experience? I've been trying to use the Phrygian to add something else to minor key solos, but can't figure out how to make it work.

i resolved to f maj 7 sharp 11. what resolution do you hear? more of a dark metal player but open to ideas.
But you dont actually play the 7 seven in this chord, you just add a 9b ?
Hello.. question please;; is there such thing as a minor7b9. all I find are dominant 7b9 with a major 3rd.

I'm a bit confused about why Phrygian chords are usually suspended. In the key of C nat., the Phrygian mode starts on E. Building a chord of triads, we get E, G, B, D, a minor 7. The A is the 11 of that chord. Does that G natural clash with something?

I'm actually yelling "WOW!" at my computer with all of the phrases you are playing.
I was wondering if you can expand on this into sort of the harmonized scale version of this. I understand triads, 7th chords, add 9s and 6th chords but when you start getting into a chord like a A7(sus4)b9 or with the 13th added to that, I am not familiar with that and see that as the next progression into my chord understanding. @Jens Larsen
