  1. Prayer is written from the perspective of ABC the first verse with MJ bieng it's father and the second was I have a Dream with MLK as the father it's kinda brilliant surprised you didn't pick it up.

  2. I don't get why Anthony keeps writing off Kendricks Mortal Man line as not very nuanced. It seems very clear that His choice of Jackson was very intentional because It is the answer to the question Kendrick lays out. Shit did hit the fan for Michael and a lot of people want to cut him out of Music History for it. I know so many music teachers who want to white wash him out of history and renounce him.
Kendrick is laying out the fact that everyone is superficial in their moral claims and don't really give a fuck about people in the Real. Rather than try to reach out and help and find some sort of path of forgiveness toward a clearly broken man, Michael died with the weight of his sins brought by the burden of his Father and fostered by the egomania of the entertainment industry we all created. We all pretend like we "care" about celebrities and artists the same way we pretend we "care" about the victims. We just wait until it's the opinion we need to have.

SO Kendrick prompts the question, Are you still a fan even if your hero is degraded on every block? And clearly the answer for many is No.

  3. Wild theory but hear me out. Kendrick was ready to release an album for the summer of this year (there was confirmed rumors he was gonna drop an album but changed his mind for reasons unknown) As he waited for summer to approach he saw the well being of our country deteriorate into something unrecognizable, watching the events unfold month after month he’s left wanting to scrap a few songs to make room for a bigger message.

  4. For the Prayer song, Kendrick personified the lyrics as an individual, thus explaining its POV on Michael Jackson and MLK, the good and the bad. This was definitely unique in how Kendrick lay down these perspectives into a central narrative we may it may not agree with.

  5. The date he gave for the first verse was the release date of Michael Jackson’s song abc. Saying it from the songs point of view.

Also I don’t think he’s comparing his critics to those of Michael Jackson or or mlk. Keep in mind “when shit hits the fan are you still a fan”. I think he’s saying if shit was to hit the fan for him, he’s asking will he be crucified as well.
