Getting Started On The Piano (NEW free video series):
►
Seventh chords (or 7th chords) are some of the most beautiful chords on the piano. But there are quite a few variations of seventh chords. It can be daunting to see notations on a musical score or lead sheet. After all, what is a Cm7b5?
In this lesson, we break down the most common types of seventh chords on the piano and explain how to create them, and how to read the music notation.
We’ll go through five different seventh variations. The Major 7, the dominant 7, the minor 7, the diminished 7 and the minor 7 flat 5 (or half-diminished).
After this lesson, you’ll be able to play all of the 7th chords on the piano!
Check out the timestamps to jump to the chord you want to learn:
The Major 7 – 0:30
The dominant 7 – 1:32
The minor 7 – 2:16
The diminished 7 – 2:59
The minor 7 flat 5 – 3:49

I love the sound of your piano, what brand is it please?
I like the dim 7th most
You lost me since dim7. I dont understand..
Been really enjoying your videos lately. I've had numerous years of piano lessons, my favourite pieces to practice were jazz pieces. But somehow I've never managed to learn chords, and chord progressions. Had plenty of scale practice, but never linked them to chords : just as chores 😀
OHMYGOD….I’m about to cry. I’m teaching myself how to play the piano and sometimes I’m on the verge on quitting because one day I unlock something, other days I feel completely lost. One thing that’s always stomped me was whenever I read something like Fmaj7 I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHAT THE 7 MEANT! I searched on the internet and everything but everyone just goes around what it’s actually means instead of just saying what it is and why it’s there. Thank you soooo much for this AHHHHH
This channel is so good, you are a true angel !!
i'm mind blown
Thank you so much. If you can play a Gospel song with these 7th is much appreciated
I love her, she makes everything look so easy. ❤️
for example when I use 7th note as a key note, means for the next key I have to change all keys to 7th note, to harmonized the song right? can you give example? when playing "if you happy and you know it" form g7th. thank you
Can we play the major 7 chords family, the same way we play triads chord family. Because while playing in C major scale , I get G dominant instead of G major. Kindly clear this doubt.
Lisa, thank you sooooo much, you explained in such clear way.
Sharpenning my piano skills thanks a lot, those video are perfect, really inspiring ❤
You should be verified
Outstanding clarity in explanations and demonstration. I am not a piano student.
As a self taught Hammond organ player I find your channel very helpful as I continue to learn
Thank you
Thank you I studied 7 grades of piano years ago with teachers ,without ever understanding theory properly . After years I’m back to learning on my own this time and with your help I’m finally understanding theory . Thank you .
Nice carpet! <3
Who else looking at the board behind her
I know nothing about music theory, but I played a diminished 7th (I'm pretty sure that's what it was) and decided it sounded "starry"
