In this lesson, I’ll teach you how to play “Me and Bobby McGee” on guitar. Originally written by Kris Kristofferson, this lesson is more influenced by the Janis Joplin version of the song. This is one of the first songs I learned on guitar! I’ll show you the chords needed, the strumming pattern, and explain how to change keys midway through the song.

Really enjoyed learning this song. Many thanks David.
is it possible a lesson how to play , help me make it through the night ? thanks
So concise and easy to follow! Thank you
Thank you sir…
From when i play this one along with the video from the HighwayMen concert, they start in C to G and F
When Waylon sings his verse they change to D then A to G
Please watch it and let me know if this is correct.
BTW, great job!
Parabéns pelo trabalho
Que hombre más amable, gran video
nice singing
Nice playing, brilliant voice!
And indeed, Ryan, it's 'Busted flat…'.
Here's mine, on keyboard/workstation: https://youtu.be/UDanYPjtpHM
Fantastic lesson! Well done!
Opening lyrics are "busted flat", not "busted flap".
Natural teaching skills. Concise and covered everything clearly. Much appreciated!
Isn't it "busted flat?"
thank you, man. your tutorial is awesome! please fix the lyrics – it's not busted flap – it's busted flat in Baton Rouge
Why are you strumming differently than what you are suggesting? You said: DD UDU but after you strum DD, I notice you strum down on the 2 highest strings, then UDU.. I am confused.
when you give the chords above the lyrics it would be helpful to indicate how many bars of each chord before the change
very nice sir
Beautiful lesson
David , a request if possible – " John Lennon/ Plastic Ono Band – You Make Me Dizzy Miss Lizzy". A great rock'n' roll song !! Cheers
Thank you for this tutorial ☺️☺️ I tried to put it to use, but there is still so much to learn. That's what I made of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrxy3rbFnAg
Hi David, great tutorial, your layout n display of chords n explanation n importantly strum pattern shown are all just great. Thank you. Me a all time great fan of Kris.Could you also please do Sunday morning coming down especially showing both strum pattern of Kris as well as Johnny cash
Great stuff !! Love it. Thanks David !!! Cheers from Australia.
Super👍
Thanks
From Brazil
David, you are such a great teacher. Thank you so very much. I will absolutely donate when I can. You're worth every cent.
Great video! 🙂
Any chance you can let us know what tempo (bpm) you're playing at? New to guitar guy here and trying to practice everything using a metronome. Haven't developed the ear for things yet. Great tutorial and thanks.
Im a big fan of the Roger Miller recording
Great tutorial. I'll look out for more.
Man I watch all your videos and you looks so comfortable and relaxed with the pick and strumming. I’m only just starting out but wondering if you could do a video highlighting technique and key points to focus on please? Love your work
9:33 y’all r welcome
great lesson, great voice! Thank you!
Great lesson, best one i have seen so far. All your lessons are pretty great. Thanks for all you have done so far. Can't wait to explore your other lessons!
great lesson – you started singing in that low voice and then somewhere in the second verse your voice found its natural place and you sounded a lot like Roger Miller for the rest of the song. Funny but plenty good enough.
But where is the end of the song …?? Its the hardest part to learn the strumming and no one see to play it at all 🙄
I want to learn this song now.. Really well done! and explained… Thank you
This video was so helpful to me! Thank you very much! I love Janis songs, so it was the first song i learned on guitar
Awesome job with this lesson; and like the others say, it's nice to hear you play the song so we can tell if we like it; and yes we do. Thank you.
Chris kristofferson version is different.
As in the words are different.
Is it the same cords?
I like her version but I really love how kristofferson does it.
You definitely have a knack for teaching. This lesson is very accessible and clear. I'm 43 years old and a year into my instruction, and I have a hunch that your tutorials are going to be pivotal in my playing development. Your pacing is right at my level.
Really great Thankyou.
kila.thanks:)
Great lesson! Thanks for taking the extra effort and putting the illustrations of the chords and strumming pattern up on the screen.
Really makes it so much easier to learn and enjoyable. It’s also really nice how you play the song first, to let us hear how it sounds.
That way we are not wasting 15 minutes watching someone show the chords to a song that we may or may not want to learn.
Zzzzz yawn
enjoyed it more than I can say. someday maybe you could teach some more songs from Kris's silver tongued devil album. I would love to share a few beers with ya, cheers.
definitely worth 5 bucks – enjoy the brewski! You rock!
Is this consider 3/4 timing 1,2 and 3 and for counting
Another great job, thanks
